Pregnancy and Ayurveda
The Ayurvedic approach is a whole health system comprising of nutritional and lifestyle advice including regular massage, yoga, meditation and the use of Ayurvedic herbs.
Over three thousand years ago, Ayurveda stressed the importance of safe motherhood and the maintenance of the health of the mother.
Ayurvedic Pregnancy Massage is a nurturing and deeply relaxing treatment which uses a specific warm oil called Brahmi Amla. This nourishing oil has been found to have relaxing qualities that soothe the nervous system. It is entirely safe to use this oil during pregnancy, postnatally and for baby massage.
After the third month of pregnancy, regular massage is recommended to help support you through the changes you are experiencing and to help prepare you for labour.
The Treatment
Every session is tailored to your individual needs and massage techniques are used according to the stage of pregnancy you are experiencing.
We ensure you are entirely comfortable, sufficiently supported and in the side-lying position that is safest for pregnancy massage.
We then use Ayurvedic massage techniques on your whole body or can focus the massage on specific areas of tension or discomfort. Firm yet soothing strokes are used that aim to relax the mother-to-be, ease any tension in the body and allow energy to flow more efficiently.
An initial treatment of 90 minutes is recommended to allow time for a thorough consultation.
