Postnatal Ayurvedic Massage

In Ayurveda new mothers are encouraged to nourish themselves by receiving regular postnatal massage. In addition Ayurveda recommends daily self-massage. We are happy to provide advice on suitable massage oils.

Deep breathing exercises can be a really effective method for relaxation and are recommended during the postnatal period and also during massage.  Deep, slow breathing (that is comfortable for you) calms the body and mind and can help the removal of toxins and waste products from the body.

A women's body undergoes a lot of physical and mental strain during the process of delivery and therefore regular postnatal massage will help promote a quick recovery and help lift the spirits.

The Treatment

As with Ayurvedic Pregnancy Massage, a thorough consultation is carried out before you are made comfortable in either the side-lying position or lying flat on the couch depending on what is most suitable.

Warm sesame seed or Brahmi Amla oil is used throughout the massage to make this a wonderfully soothing and relaxing treatment.

The treatment can include the whole body or can focus on particular areas such as the back or abdomen area (abdominal massage is very beneficial but may not always be suitable).  Circular and long strokes are used with varying pressure to reduce tension, work on the muscles to help them regain their natural shape as well as energy points on the body helping you to rest and recover.
