KnotStressed offers, as a guideline, four options to introduce the Massage in Schools Programme within your school or after-school club. However, we are happy to tailor the approach to suit your needs.
To give you an idea of what you could book, why not think about:
A single 1-hour session
- This would involve a basic introduction to the massage routine. The teacher or leader would then be able to continue the learning of the massage routine with that class and introduce touch games through learning on other topics.
- Single sessions can also be booked for children who have already been taught the massage routine by a trained instructor to support learning for specific curriculum topics. For example, we can cover topics as unrelated as 'the Vikings', 'the weather', 'recycling', 'story-telling' and 'french'!
5 x 1-hour, weekly sessions with the same class
- This would enable the class to gradually learn the massage routine over time and would enable us to use the sessions to encourage 'learning through massage' on a range of curriculum topics over the 6 week period, such as maths, science, history, geography, cultural studies and languages.
1-hr sessions for 5 different year groups in one day
- This would provide the introduction to the basic routine for five year groups within the school. Teachers would then be able to continue the learning of the massage routine and introduce touch games through learning in future classes.
5 weeks of 1-hr sessions with 5 different year groups
-
This would enable five classes of children to gradually learn the massage routine over time from a qualified therapist and would enable us to use the sessions with each class to encourage 'learning through massage' on a range of topics over the 5 week period. This approach will help us to demonstrate the benefits of implementing massage in schools with a range of age groups over a five-week period. Using this approach we would also have more time to engage the parents in the programme to evaluate the impacts of this programme on home life as well as school life.
